Hands-on technology learning in Birmingham, Michigan

Children understand technology by building it.

At The Robot Garage, children work with gears, motors, sensors, code, and mechanical systems through projects that develop in front of them. Our educators make difficult ideas approachable, guide students through challenges, and know how to make all of it fun and engaging.

Our educational approach

Learning by doing.

Students assemble a working system, program it, test what happens, and make changes to improve their build. A moving robot or finished game provides a concrete way to understand code, mechanics, and decisions behind them.

Build step by step

Projects are designed for specific ages and grade levels, giving beginners a clear place to begin while allowing returning students to work with increasing complexity.

Understand what makes it work

Educators connect each build to an underlying idea, such as investigating gear ratios, motion, sensors, circuits, programming logic, or iterative design.

Grow more independent

Students receive enough support to keep moving while being given the space to gain confidence in their own ability to solve the next problem. Respect is an important part of all we do and social skill development is an outgrowth of that.

The people behind the projects

Robots are about people.

Technology may be the area of study but relationships shape the experience. Educators greet students by name, notice how they approach a problem, and welcome families to see what they’ve built. The result is a place with high expectations for its teaching and a relaxed, welcoming culture for the children who walk through the door.

The Robot Garage building in Birmingham, Michigan

Built in Birmingham

Growing since 2011

The Robot Garage began with a family looking for a place where children could keep building and learning beyond the short school-based robotics season. Since then, we have developed a curriculum in-house, taught 100,000+ children through classes, camps, parties, and school programs, and built a core team whose relationships with families often lasts for years.
