Motorized Catapult

3, 2, 1, LAUNCH! Students will have a blast building & programming a motorized catapult which will launch Lego spheres. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with target practice, play “catch” with a friend, or test just how far their catapults can launch.

Students will use LEGO Technic® pieces to build the base & catapult mechanism. Our instructors will educate students about how rubber bands can store energy which will be used to launch the catapult. Gears will transfer energy and power from the motor to the catapult arm which will stretch & release the rubber bands to launch the ball. Using an infrared sensor & LEGO WeDo® programming software, students will program their catapults to launch with just the press of a button. WeDo® is a graphical drag-and-drop programming language with offers a simple, age-appropriate introduction to the fundamentals of coding.
