Everyone has heard of STEM, but have you heard of STEAM? STEAM continues to gain “steam” each day with its unique approach that includes the arts in the curriculum. With STEAM kits becoming more popular by the day, we have broken down our kids subscription box and why it’s the right choice for your family!
What is STEAM?
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts. Combining these subjects while incorporating art allows students to receive a well-rounded education.
STEAM vs. STEM
STEAM (science, technology, engineering, math, the arts) was introduced in 2006 and has caused debate. STEAM has incorporated the arts into the mix, recognizing the importance of creativity and innovation. The addition of the arts allows students to bring design and appearance elements to a project.
STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) was introduced in 2001 and became popular in the classroom. STEM allows teachers to combine these four subjects into one program, encouraging students to use everything they have learned to execute complex projects.
So, what’s better? As the debate continues, STEAM keeps receiving a significant push. After all, if no one uses their imagination or creates new things, where does that leave the world? STEAM allows students to learn everything they need while bringing their innovation into the mix.
What is a Kids Subscription Box?
A monthly delivery right to your door filled with niche products catered to your child’s interests. Sign me up! This is one of the best ways to shop for your child. Kids subscription boxes offer unique experiences centered around a theme or interest filled with an activity or experiment that teaches your kids while allowing them to have fun.
Why STEAM is Important
We have built a world that is complex and intricate, with beauty all around. Therefore, we must facilitate learning environments that are relevant, fluid, and dynamic. STEAM helps children accomplish that. Research shows that STEAM is a promising approach impacting students by allowing them to be curious learners and solve real-world problems. We are committed to keeping STEAM popular and sharing it with everyone we can!
What is a STEAM Kit?
STEAM kits promote exploration and discovery. STEAM kits include a range of games, robots, art sets, computers, or experiments. Each kit your child receives is unique and different from the one before it. These offer kids the ability to use unique skills to complete the activities in the STEAM kit, allowing them to practice different life skills with each activity.
Our most popular STEAM kits include three monthly classes complete with video tutorials, a LEGO project, and a post-class activity for each class!

Creating three LEGO robotic systems a month, our Robot Academy, Jr. kids subscription box teaches your child through step-by-step videos from our expert teachers.. These hands-on projects will teach your kids the mechanics of engineering and creativity.
Once the robot is built, your child will be walked through the next phase of the video, teaching them to code their robot and make it functional! Focusing on fine motor and engineering skills, we cover how windshield wipers, carousels, and other mechanical items operate.
How Our Video Tutorials Work
Over the years, we have perfected our online video tutorials. We want to make sure your child feels comfortable and can work at their own pace. We release three videos each month, allowing your child to follow along and return to a video if necessary. Each video is about an hour-long, and our teachers walk through the project step-by-step. Using engineering fundamentals and proper vocabulary, your child will love this hands-on approach. And we can’t wait to teach them!
Our teachers have taught LEGO robotics in-person to thousands of students so they are expert trouble-shooters and incorporate that knowledge into our videos. They know from experience where kids may struggle and they build that into each lesson. How do we know it works? We almost never get calls from parents asking for help and the average subscriber stays with us for 6 months or more. That’s 18 LEGO robots per child!
We also offer a bonus game or activity at the end of the project, encouraging your child to keep learning and playing with us long after their project is over!
